This is Tenrai, watching a Spirit of a recently deceased doe Sika deer make its way to the center of the forest. There it will "Enter the After" at the Mother Tree in the very heart of Hisakousen Forest. Usually, they don't require guidance from Tenrai, but she is just watching, because it is her duty to keep order.
Basically there are FOUR kinds of "spirits" in the forest.
First, The Lesser Gods, Tenrai and Arik, who are the main protectors and overseers of Hisakousen.
Second, there are the Spirit Creatures, the magical animal spirits. These aren't really dead, theyve never died. They are like normal animals, except not. These are the "mythical creatures" that posses magic powers, such as Kitsune, Nekomata, Nue, etc etc. Some of these are actual youkai from legend, and some are creatures created by myself.
Third Are the Spirits of the Dead, or Ghosts. These are usually temporary, and walk in a trance-like state from the point of their death to the Mother Tree where they enter the afterlife. Regular animals and mortals cannot see them USUALLY. Sometimes, they stay behind and haunt a location. The doe in this picture is one of these.
Finally are the Soul Remnants . These are the glowing orbs you see trailing off BEHIND the deer. They are memories and pieces of life from the living. They are about as intelligent as insects, and float around.
Tenrai's a sweetheart haha, she just looks scary
